About Us
Healing isn’t about changing who you are; it’s about remembering your wholeness and reclaiming the parts of yourself you’ve learned to hide.
Our Mission
At Love Your Life Counseling Center, my mission is to walk alongside adults—especially those newly diagnosed with ADHD or healing from complex trauma—as they reconnect with the wisdom, power, and peace already within them. I believe healing happens in relationship: through trust, compassion, and the safety of being truly seen.
Our Approach
I specialize in working with late-diagnosed ADHD adults who struggle with self-esteem, emotional regulation, and unresolved childhood trauma. My approach integrates somatic, IFS, and DBT-informed therapy with mindfulness and self-compassion practices to create a safe and compassionate space for transformation. Grounded in the principle of walking in beauty—living in harmony and alignment—I help clients reconnect with their bodies, emotions, and inner wisdom. I walk alongside them as they learn to sit with pain, challenge old patterns, and rediscover the wholeness that’s always been within them. Intensive sessions are available for deeper, breakthrough-oriented healing.
MEET THE OWNER
DeeJay John, Founder & Licensed Therapist
Welcome to Love Your Life Counseling Center! I’m DeeJay John, a licensed therapist with over eight years of experience in the mental health field. I hold both my Bachelor’ and Master’s of Social Work degrees from the University of Utah, where I focused on the intersection of mental health, trauma, and human connection.
My career began in the world of substance use recovery, supporting individuals and families as they reconnected with themselves and rebuilt their lives. During my graduate studies, I also worked extensively with geriatric populations, helping older adults and their families navigate the emotional and healthcare challenges of aging.
Later, my path led me to the VA residential treatment campus in California—the same grounds where One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was written. There, I worked with Veterans facing substance use, PTSD, and severe mental health challenges. Many struggled with executive functioning and undiagnosed ADHD. It was there that I witnessed how untreated ADHD and trauma often intertwine, deepening cycles of shame, emotional dysregulation, and disconnection.
As I began integrating somatic therapy, DBT, CBT, schema therapy, and psychodrama, I saw clients—many of whom felt numb, restless, or disconnected—begin to feel light, calm, and grounded in their own bodies for the first time. These experiences inspired me to study more about the effects of trauma on neurobiology, exploring how the vagus nerve, interoception, and trauma influence the way we process emotions and connect to our sense of safety.
Today, my work centers on helping late-diagnosed ADHD adults, trauma survivors, and high-achieving individuals who struggle with self-criticism, shame, or emotional overwhelm. My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with somatic, IFS, and mindfulness-based practices to create a compassionate, embodied path toward healing.
What is Schema and Somatic Therapy?
Schema Therapy is an integrative, evidence-informed approach that helps individuals identify and change deeply ingrained patterns—called “schemas”—that shape how they think, feel, and behave. These schemas often develop in childhood and can contribute to emotional difficulties, relationship challenges, and self-criticism.
Through Schema Therapy, clients learn to recognize these patterns, understand their origins, and develop healthier coping strategies. Techniques often include cognitive restructuring, experiential exercises, and behavioral interventions designed to help individuals meet their emotional needs in more adaptive ways. Over time, Schema Therapy promotes self-compassion, emotional flexibility, and the ability to build more fulfilling relationships.
Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the deep connection between the mind, body, and nervous system. Trauma and stress are often stored physically in the body, contributing to chronic tension, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation.
In somatic therapy, clients are guided to develop awareness of bodily sensations, breathing patterns, and physical responses. By accessing the body as a resource for insight and healing, somatic therapy helps release trauma, regulate the nervous system, and restore a sense of safety and embodiment. This approach fosters calm, resilience, and a renewed connection to one’s own inner wisdom.
